Book Review: WE RISE: SPEECHES BY INSPIRATIONAL BLACK WOMEN

I got my bachelors degree in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Argumentation and Persuasion. I inform you of this, dear reader because a good speech moves me. I enjoy reading good speeches, listening to speeches, writing speeches, and sometimes I enjoy delivering speeches.

So when the growth gods led me to this book I had to pick it up. I’m glad I did.

I learn history from other people’s eyes. I heard the pains, struggles, and joys from memorable people like the ones below:

The lesson I took from this book is strong people speak up and live for themselves. They demand respect and don’t stop until they get respected. People, institutions, and governments can try to put a lid on our self-determination but the strength of our human spirit will blow the lid right off. These fine women remind us to rise no matter what knocks down.

Rise,
