The classroom/court shapes lives. No life is more shaped than the teacher/coach. Thompson shaped his life by doing as his mom told him, “Speak your mind.” Each teacher must decide to use the classroom as a lab for self-shaping.

One way to shape yourself is by speaking what’s on your mind. Thompson, like McEnroe never hesitated to voice his opinion. His ability to voice his opinion helped him to negotiate contracts, put together championship caliber teams, and receive induction into the basketball hall of fame.
