Ralph Waldo Emerson started off an essay called “Self-Reliance” with the following statement, “Do not seek outside yourself.” Why do we seek outside ourselves for approval? Why don’t we uproot the lifeless vines of the need for others approval and cultivate trust in one’s own intuition?

The heart. The instinct. The gut. The intuition. This is the place where we find no boundaries, no limits. No one can take this from you. No one can stain it. People may criticize you, ostracize you, or mistreat you but they can’t not harm your core unless you give them authorization.
